Maurice Dufrene (French, 1876-1955). Lithograph poster, Rayon des Soieries, Opera Bouffe en un acte. Chaix, Paris, 1930. Signed in the plate lower right. 46 1/8" x 30" (with frame 48" x 32"). Minor discoloration below the L lower right. Provenance: The Estate of Dr. Benard Dreyer. Dr. Benard Dreyer, past president of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a regular guest on Sirius XM's Dr. Radio, passed away on January 1, 2025. Dr. Dreyer was a prominent voice and force in advocating for the health and wellness care for all children, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, and a collector of beautiful objects and art. A portion of the proceeds from this auction will be donated to the department of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at NYU, and to other organizations he supported that shared his dedication to all children (especially marginalized children and families).

France,1876-1955 Art deco depiction of an abstract female form raising on arm draped with fabric marked "Rayon des Soieries Opera Bouffe en Un Acte Livre de Nino Musique de Manuel Rosenthal" created in 1930 by Maurice Dufrene. The performance was a one-act opera set in the silk section of a department store, which Dufrene had experience as he worked as the Head of Design for Galeries Lafayette. Dufrene not only created the poster, but designed the costumes and set for the opera. Dufrene had also worked as a manager and furniture designer at La Maison Moderne in the Art Nouveau fashion before switching to Art Deco in the years following, producing designs for Christofle.

Chaix, Paris DESCRIPTION: This archetype of high Art Deco was created for the 1930 opening of an operetta by Manuel Rosenthal which involved intrigues in the silk department of a clothing store. Most of the design is black and white, but some of the lengths of fabric hanging from the figures arm are tinged with the most exquisitely pale shades of pink and yellow.
