    Otto Eckert - Czech sculptor, ceramist, teacher, curator and photographer. Since 1956 he was a member of the Académie internationale de la céramique (since 1967 also vice-president), thanks to which he managed to organize an international exhibition of ceramics in Prague in 1962. He concentrated more on simpler applied ceramics influenced by functionalism, but with more demanding finishes, especially layered and then scraped coloured glazes. His porcelain services designed for Expo 58 are highly valued. Signed: signed underneath: Eckert

    A vase in the functionalist style by Otto Eckert, a sculptor, potter and pedagogue who was a member of the Académie internationale de la céramique and was able to organize an international exhibition of ceramics in Prague. It is represented in the collections of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and the Moravian Gallery in Brno.

    DECORATIVE PLATE Bohemia, 1943–1948 Deep maiolica plate on circular base, relief decorations from outside, brown and green glazed, fine painting of stripes and dots under the glaze from the outside. Ø 22,7 cm. Bottom signed "Eckert". Lit.: Šindelář Dušan, Otto Eckert. Prague 1979, p. 23 and picture number 70. DEKORATIVNÍ TALÍŘ Čechy, 1943–1948 Hlubší majolikový talíř kruhového půdorysu, ze spodní strany reliéfně zdobený, hnědě a zeleně glazovaný, s jemnou lineární a tečkovanou malbou pod glazurou na svrchní straně. Ø 22,7 cm. Na podední signováno "Eckert". Stav A. Lit.: Šindelář Dušan, Otto Eckert. Praha 1979, s. 23 a obr. 70 a n. Český sochař, keramik, pedagog, kurátor a fotograf. Studoval na Státní průmyslové škole sochařské a kamenické (1924–1926) a na pražské Uměleckoprůmyslové škole u K. Štipla (1926-1933). Poté působil v porcelánce Epiag v Březové, později pracoval v Praze a konečně ve vlastní dílně v Kralovicích na Plzeňsku. Od roku 1946 vyučoval na VŠUP, vedl zde ateliér porcelánu a keramiky, mezi léty 1960–1966 dokonce zastával pozici rektora. Od roku 1956 byl členem Académie internationale de la céramique (od r. 1967 i viceprezidentem), díky tomu se mu podařilo v roce 1962 uspořádat mezinárodní výstavu keramiky v Praze. Soustředil se spíše na jednodušší užitou keramiku pod vlivem funkcionalismu, ale s náročnější povrchovou úpravou, zejména vrstvených a následně proškrabovaných barevných glazur. Ceněny jsou jeho porcelánové servisy navržené pro Expo 58. Obdržel řadu ocenění včetně titulu zasloužilý umělec, národní umělec, Řádu práce, Řádu Vítězného února či zlaté medaile z mezinárodních keramických výstav v Praze, Istanbulu a Gualdo Toddino, nebo stříbrnou medaili na Trienále v Miláně v roce 1937. Spoluzakladatel ÚBOK a ÚVA. DEKORATIVER TELLER Böhmen, 1943–1948 Tieferer runder Majolika-Teller, reliefierte Unterseite, braun- und grünglasiert, mit feiner linearen und getupften Malerei unter Glasur auf der Oberseite.
