Sophia May Tuckerman Eckley was the daughter of Boston merchant Edward Tuckerman III and the sister of writer Frederick Tuckerman and botanist Edward Tuckerman. An artist and writer, Sophia married David Eckley in 1848, and spent much of her time abroad in Italy and France.
