      Est: £1,200 - £1,800

Books: EDE, Janina (b. 1937). An extensive archive of original artwork, mostly gouache and pen-and-ink drawings on paper, for Erskine Caldwell's Claudelle, Francis Irby Gwaltney's The Numbers of Our Days, Colette's Three's Company, and many others, in excess of 130 items, sometimes several subjects to a sheet, lithographs, etchings, printer's proofs, etc., some in window mounts. Janina Ede was born in Southampton and studied at the Winchester School of Art. She became a freelance artist and produced the artwork for many book covers, including several for Penguin, and, perhaps most famously, for an edition of Colette's Gigi. She also provided the illustrations for two stories on TV's Jackanory. See Alan Horne's The Dictionary of British Book Illustrators, pp.173-4.
