Edouard fecit 1842/Boston U.S., full-figure standing before a print of a harbor walkway, 10.5 by 7” (sight), original frame 13 by 10”; along with a silhouette of David’s brother inscribed James Greenough/20th May 1842, 11.75 by 4.75 in. (sight) in half inch black frame (water stains discoloration at edges) The brothers, both counselors at law, went to Edouart’s Boston studio together on May 20th. Edouart made two of every silhouette, one to keep for his records, the other to sell to the client. This is one the artist kept. Both silhouettes are listed on pg. 524 in the appendix of Andrew Oliver’s “Auguste Edouart’s Silhouettes of Eminent Americans, 1839-1844”. Among the prominent figures Edouart silhouetted was John Quincy Adam and Daniel Webster.
