Dietz Edzard Art for Sale at Auction

Painter

In 1911, at the age of 18, German artist Dietz Edzard began his art training with Max Beckmann. Sadly, his subsequent four years as a soldier left him with post-traumatic stress disorder, for which he was eventually committed to an asylum. One of the best known Dietz Edzard paintings, Petite Fille Triste, was painted during his time in treatment, and it depicts a fragile young woman with a terrified expression in her eyes.

With the end of World War II, and the birth of his two daughters, Edzard abandoned gray shadows and dark, harsh imagery. Dietz Edzard paintings, particularly his still-life and portraiture, took on beige and yellow-colored highlights, and exuded a peaceful appearance. After the artist's portrait of American journalist Red Knickerbocker in 1927, there was increased interest in Dietz Edzard paintings for sale. Find other artists' deeply expressive artwork by viewing jaw-dropping portrait paintings online.
