      Bishop (William) "The Bishop of Bond Street".- Egan (Pierce) Fistiana; or, The Oracle of the Ring, sixth edition, engraved frontispiece, presentation inscription on front free endpaper "From The Bishop of Bond St. To His Friend Dr. Jones 1848", original limp cloth, spine dated in white ink, 1846; and a 2nd edition (1842) of the same with a manuscript 'sparring' list and folding printed list of bouts for the year at end, 12mo (2) ⁂ William Bishop (1797-1871) was the famed 'Bishop of Bond Street', the de facto main salesman for gunsmith Westley Richards. He became renowned and well-respected amongst the gentlemen frequenting the fashionable West End and occasionally organised a rat hunt, cock fight or boxing match - hence the inscription.

Bensley, 1821. ⁂ A rare survival in the original boards with the plates bound immediately after the leaves of contents rather than at the places within the book indicated in the "Directions to Binder". Six plates are dated 1822 as listed in Tooley and two plates have variant titles: plate 13 is captioned Adventures in a Snoozing Cellar and is undated and plate 18 is captioned Our Hero and his Friends having a small taste of a Row in the Theatre, also undated. Maroquin um 1890 (minimal bestoßen, Gelenke und Rücken restaurierten hinterlegt) mit figürlicher RVergoldung, goldgeprägtem RTitel, Deckel- , Steh- und Innenkantenfilten sowie dreiseitigem Goldschnitt (signiert "Wood. London"). London, Sherwood, Jones & Co.,1823. Zweite Ausgabe. Pierce Egan (1772-1849) erzählt in zeitgenössischem Slang die Eskapaden der drei Protagonisten Tom, Jerry und Logic, die auf Vergnügungstour durch die ärmlichen Stadtviertel Londons ziehen. – Mit einem durchgehenden kleinen Fleck am Rand, sonst nur minimal gebräunt. Mit zeitgenössischem Exlibris auf dem vorderen Innenspiegel. Insgesamt wohlerhaltenes und schön gebundenes Exemplar. Der geschmackvolle Handeinband mit dekorativen Eckfleurons, die einen Pferdekopf, ein paar Boxerhandschuhe, ein Schild mit gekreuzten Schwertern und ein kleines Tischstillleben einrahmen.
