FRIEDRICH JOSEPH EHEMANT, attributed to; VIEW OF A RUINED CASTLE

      Est: €3,000 - €4,000

FRIEDRICH JOSEPH EHEMANT, attributed to VIEW OF A RUINED CASTLE Following the start of his studies at the Städelschen Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt in 1829, Friedrich Joseph Ehemant continued his education at the Dusseldorf Academy of Fine Arts under Wilhelm Schadow and in the landscape class of Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. His carefully composed and finely painted works follow the romantic and poetic ideal of "Stimmungslandschaften" (mood landscapes) propagated by Schirmer's school, except that Ehemant generally gave his landscapes of the Mosel, Hessia or Rhine an architectural focus, such as a castle, church, chapel or mill and included just a few figures. This previously unknown and solely monogrammed painting adheres to this general description of Ehemant's oeuvre, which is why it is being attributed to him here. - We would like to thank Professor Helmut Börsch-Supan, Berlin for his help in cataloguing this work.
