Collins Eisenhauer - Folk Art Group of Robins

    Est: $300 - $500

Collins Eisenhauer (Canadian, 1898-1979). Folk Art Carved and Painted Figural Group of Three Robins. Mounted on a stylized tree, signed "COLLINS EISENHAUER" beneath the base. H: 12.75 in., W: 8.375 in., D: 7.375 in. Collins Eisenhauer (1898-1979) was from Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. After he retired in 1964, he began carving and painting figures such as birds, animals and people, and displayed them on his lawn. In the early 1970's antique dealers began to take notice of his work. Originally calling himself "Collins Eisener," he changed his name to "Collins Eisenhauer" after he met Chris Huntington, a well-known figure involved in Nova Scotia folk art. Huntington discovered a group of Nova Scotia folk artists in the early 1970's and later wrote that "Collins Eisenhauer was singled out as the great master among other brilliant contemporaries." That group of artists participated in the first ever exhibition of contemporary folk art curated by the Art gallery of Nova Scotia, which travelled across Nova Scotia in 1976.
