        This originally hand-colored lithograph is from Ebenezer Emmons's Natural History of New York. The work was commissioned by the New York State legislature in 1836 and published by Appleton & Co. The section in which this print appears is the Agriculure of New York and was published in 1851. The images were drawn by Emmons's son and lithographed by George Endicott. Emmons was a physician and natural history professor with a strong passion for geology. He named the Adirondacks & Taconic Mountains. He worked on three volumes of Natural History and created the work American Geology which described American fossils.
