      Bronze with dark brown patina; marble Germany, um 1890 Erdmann Encke (1843-1896) - German sculptor of the Rauch School in Berlin and Imperial Court sculptor Signed in the cast ‘E. Encke fec’ on the reverse of the bust Dimensions: 17 x 14 x 5 cm Marble plinth: 2 x 13 x 10 cm Good condition A beautiful testimony of the 19th century Orientalism movement  Condition: The bust is in good condition, showing minor wear marks. The dimensions are approximately 17 x 14 x 5 cm, and the marble plinth measures 2 x 13 x 10 cm. The original sculpture has a bird sitting on the shoulder of the men, which is missing here. Erdmann Encke (1843-1896) Erdmann Encke is said to have been a descendant of Friedrich Wilhelm II and thus a relative of the Prussian royal family. He received his artistic training with Albert Wolff. Encke was a member of the Akademie der Künste and sculptor to the Imperial Court. In Berlin, he created among others the bronze statue of Elector Frederick I of Brandenburg for a niche next to the main entrance of the town hall, the marble statue of Queen Luise and a boy with pony at the Tiergarten, as well as the bronzes of the Great Elector and Frederick the Great for the Hall of Fame.
