      Harry Engel Indiana / Romania, (1901 - 1968) Solomon, 1953 encaustic on board signed and dated lower right, titled verso. Associated American Artists, NYC label verso. Biography from the Archives of askART: Harry Engel is one of the outstanding exponents of artists working today in encaustic painting. He is also noted in lithography. Born in Romania, Engel was brought to this country by his parents at an early age. He was raised in the Midwest and spent two years studying art in Paris, later continuing at Notre Dame and Columbia universities. He has exhibited in many museums including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Butler Art Institute, the University of Illinois and the Grand Palais, Paris. Since 1928 he has been Associate Professor of Fine Arts at Indiana University.
