This lithograph by Jean-Baptiste Isabey (France, 1767-1855) was printed by Godefroy Engelmann (Germany / France, 1788-1839). It is titled "Escalier de la Grande Tour, Chateau d'Harcourt" (Staircase of the Great Tower, Castle Harcourt). It is an image from "Voyages pittoresques et romantiques dans l'ancienne France", a series on ancient France. The work is housed in a burled wooden frame with a layered mat. There is foxing visible to the print's border. The sight area measures 12 1/2" x 7 3/4", and the frame measures 22" x 31". In-house shipping is available. Burg del.t", named "Der Bund auf dem Rütli". Depiction of the Rütlischwür, a historical narrative of the late 15th century, which played an important role during the early modern period as a founding legend of the Old Confederation and was developed since the 19th century as a national myth of modern Switzerland. According to the legend, representatives of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden took an oath on the Rütli, a meadow on Lake Lucerne, to make a covenant against the tyrannical Habsburg bailiffs, which led to an open revolt after the murder of a bailiff by Wilhelm TELL and to the emergence and growth of the Old Confederation. This large cotton square in grisaille represents the scene of the anointing of Charles X in the cathedral of Reims before his coronation, by Monseigneur de Latil. Borders decorations with in the corners the portraits of the duke of Angoulême, the duke of Berry, the duchess of Angoulême and the duchess of Berry. On the sides, the scepter and the hand of justice surrounded by fleurs-de-lis au naturel. At the top a bas-relief scene representing King Charles X surrounded by allegories of Religion and Industry, figures of the Arts, Music, Agriculture, Army and Navy. Below, two angels holding the Royal Arms of France in a laurel wreath. Silk scarf signed "chez G.D? et Huguenin & Cie, Rue du Gros Chenet N°8 à Paris".

Lettres sur les bourbons adressées au Roi et aux Industriels : Lettre 1er d’introduction au Roi ; Lettre deuxième faisant suite à la précédente S.l.n.d., ca. 1815. Réunion de deux lettres circulaires imprimées en lithographie sur papier vergé fin filigrané par Godefroy Engelmann N° 27 rue Louis Legrand, fac-similés de l’époque de lettres de 8 et 4 pages in-4° signées : « De votre Majesté le très fidèle sujet Henry S Simon » dans lesquelles Saint Simon s’adresse à Louis XVIII et plaide pour un rapprochement d’intérêts entre l’ancienne noblesse et les industriels pour faire face au menées subversives de la noblesse de Bonaparte. « En analysant dans ma dernière brochure l’état politique actuel, je crois avoir démontré que les industriels sont aujourd’hui les seuls appuis solides de la royauté, et qu’en conséquence le plan politique invariable de votre dynastie doit avoir pour objet une ligne intime avec eux [...]si les obstacles à la coalition indispensable de la royauté et de l’industrie ne venaient point de ces deux pouvoirs eux mêmes ils ne pourraient provenir que de la résistance de l’ancienne féodalité ou de celle de la féodalité de Bonaparte qui ont effectivement l’une et l’autre le plus grand intérêt à empêcher une liaison dont l’effet immédiat serait d’ôter pour jamais aux deux classes de factieux toute chance de succès [...] Sire, l’obstacle principal à l’établissement d’une coalition entre la royauté et les industriels consiste, de la part de ceux-ci, dans une prévention contre votre dynastie que la féodalité de Bonaparte est parvenue a faire naitre et enraciner chez la plupart des industriels, mais à ne point s’y opposer et peut être à les approuver [....]C’est là ce qui a fait réussir au 20 mars, comme par enchantement, les projets des Bonapartistes ; c’est là ce qui leur aurait procuré un second succès e puis longtemps, sans la criante d’une nouvelle invasion, crainte qui ne saurait être éternelle [...]Aujourd’hui, le caractère féodal doit s’effacer complétement, et la royauté doit devenir entièrement communale. En un mot le Roi au lieu d’être le chef des gentilshommes de son royaume, doit devenir le chef des industriels [...]votre majesté n’a donc rien à redouter relativement à la restauration du dogme de la souveraineté du peuple de la part des industriels [...]d’ailleurs le seul mal réel qui pourrait résulter de la restauration de ce dogme, si elle était possible serait des tentatives pour faire participer au pouvoir la masse du peuple. Or, sous ce rapport, il ne saurait y avoir le moindre motif de crainte. Les chefs industriels sont de tous ceux qui redoutent le plus le désordre, comme étant ceux aux quels il cause le plus de dommage, et en second lieu, ils ont tous les moyens imaginables pour l’empêcher, comme étant les chefs naturels et permanents du peuple [...] La royauté n’a donc aucun motif réel pour ne pas adopter le plan de liaison avec les industriels qui est dicté par son intérêt le plus grand et par son besoin le plus urgent.
