    SET OF CHESSMEN BY MAX ERNST (1891-1976) Designed in 1966, made by goldsmith François Hugo 1973. signed, stamped and numbered 4/6. 16 figures in Gold 23 carat and 16 figures in silver 990, hammered and chased. Total weight 920 gr. gold; 740 gr. silver. Proof mark Marseille. In two separate walnut boxes with inlaid and engraved inscription and maker's marks. H king 12 cm, pawn 6.5 cm. Provenance: - Galerie Kornfeld Bern, Auction 17.6.1988, Lot 51. - Dr. E. Boehlen Collection, Bern, acquired at the above auction. All 32 figures signed, numbered 4/6 and with proof mark. Random gold test indicates a gold content of 22-23 carats. The surfaces of the chess pieces are somewhat worn and show some signs of wear, as well as a few minor dents. Gold figures: some with small nicks and dents. Silver figures: some with small dents, the bishop with a larger dent.
