      Est: €8,000 - €10,000

ANDRÉS ETCHEBARNE BIDART (Montevideo, Uruguay, 1889 - Melo, 1931). "Landscape of Melo, Uruguay", 1921. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated and located in the lower left corner. Measurements: 90 x 96 cm; 103 x 108 x 5 cm. (frame). This is an interesting work by Andrés Etchebarne, as can be seen in the compositional boldness and freedom of the stroke, based on material touches and a special ability to capture an atmosphere with minimal elements. This is a landscape of Mole, a city in Uruguay where the painter spent the last years of his life. Andrés Etchebarne was a disciple of the painter Carlos María Herrera at the recently founded Círculo de Bellas Artes. At the end of 1913 he traveled to Europe and settled in Paris, Munich and other cities, until he arrived in Mallorca, where he stayed for a longer period of time. During his stay in Europe he was influenced by the masters Anglada Camarasa and Puvis de Chavannes. In 1915 he returned to Uruguay and made repeated trips to the interior of the country whose landscapes he captured in his works. In 1917 he became a professor of drawing at the high school in Melo, a position he held until his death. Currently his work is kept in the Juan Manuel Blanes Museum in Montevideo, among other institutions and private collections.
