[FABERT, Abraham (c.1560-1638)].

[?Metz:] s.n., [1624]. 2° (292 x 194mm). Engraved title, plate of arms of the dedicatee and 2 other plates of arms, 9 plates of festivities, architectural features etc., all but one folding and 2 double-page, 9 engraved illustrations in the text, 2 full-page. (Two plates with short tears, very light browning and spotting at end). 18th-century armorial half sheep, spine gilt in compartments (lightly rubbed). Provenance: Gustave II of Sweden (arms on binding) -- 18th-century armorial bookplate. APPARENTLY THE ONLY EDITION OF THIS RARE FESTIVAL BOOK describing the entry of the Duchesse de la Valette into the city of Metz at the end of April 1624 and the entertainments staged for her, including a short play entitled 'Phillis Retrouvée'. The author, Abraham Fabert, succeeded his father, Dominique, as director of the Duc de Lorraine's printing press in Metz, and it would seem probable that the above book was printed in that city.
