    DESCRIPTION: Carl Arthur Faille (California/Connecticut, 1883-1956). Paintings, two. Oil on board. Waterscapes. Unsigned. Born in Detroit, Michigan on February 17, 1883, of Canadian parents, he was self-taught as an artist, primarily of landscapes. Also a printmaker, he lived in San Diego in the 1930s, Hartford, Connecticut in the 1940s, and died in Newport, Rhode Island on January 13, 1956. The first of an industrial scene along a river or coastline and the second of boat at a dock. PROVENANCE: Unsigned but part of a collection of Faille paintings collected by the consignor including the signed pieces offered in a previous lot. MEASUREMENTS: Industrial 9-5/8" x 11-5/8", overall with frame 11-3/4" x 13-1/2". Dock scene 9-5/8" x 11-3/4", overall with frame 11-5/8" x 13-3/4". CONDITION: Very good.

Born in Detroit, Michigan on February 17, 1883, of Canadian parents, he was self-taught as an artist, primarily of landscapes. Also a printmaker, he lived in San Diego in the 1930s, Hartford, Connecticut in the 1940s, and died in Newport, Rhode Island on January 13, 1956. The first of a New England farm scene and the second of a winter scene reminiscent of New Hope Pennsylvania. New frames. PROVENANCE: Unsigned but part of a collection of Faille paintings collected by the consignor including the signed pieces offered in a previous lot. MEASUREMENTS: Farm scene 9-7/8" x 11-5/8", overall with frame 12" x 13-3/4". Winter scene 9-1/2" x 13", overall with frame 11-3/4" x 15". CONDITION: Very good.

    DESCRIPTION: Carl Arthur Faille (California/Connecticut, 1883-1956). Paintings, five. Oil on artist board (some untrimmed). Landscapes. All signed and dated "1922". Born in Detroit, Michigan on February 17, 1883, of Canadian parents, he was self-taught as an artist, primarily of landscapes. Also a printmaker, he lived in San Diego in the 1930s, Hartford, Connecticut in the 1940s, and died in Newport, Rhode Island on January 13, 1956. The paintings all signed and dated 1922 appear to be in Faille's early naïve period of work and show a cover bridge, mill, town and landscape scenes. MEASUREMENTS: 10" x 12". CONDITION: Very good. All have been varnished at some point.
