The racers burst from the tunnel, hugging the tight turn at the water’s edge as they charge toward the finish, framed by the sunlit slopes of Monaco and the grandeur of the Hotel de Paris. As the first illustrated advertisement for the event—its debut year featured only text—it captures the raw speed and power of the Mercedes SSKL in a composition as dynamic as the race itself. That year, Rene Dreyfus claimed victory in his Bugatti T35B, adding to the legend of Monaco. A painter, decorator, and illustrator, Falcucci first made his mark in automotive graphics at Renault before cementing his legacy with his celebrated Monaco posters of the 1930s.

    Monaco Grand Prix 1932.

    Est: $17,000 - $20,000

ARTIST: ROBERT FALCUCCI (1900-1989) SIZE: 30 3/4 x 47 in./78 x 119.3 cm PRINTER: Imp. Monégasque, Monte-Carlo DESCRIPTION: This is the third poster Falcucci created for the glamourous Monaco Grand-Prix. “In a masterful display of pastels, he contrasted the tranquil and sunny slopes of the Riviera with the blue of two speeding racers. As in his first two Monaco posters, he drew streaks of white around the lead car to convey a feeling of breathless velocity. The cars have emerged from the Tir aux Pigeons tunnel to rush daringly into a tight curve at the water’s edge and on to the finish line. At the top of the hill sits the casino and the majestic Hotel de Paris, 130 feet above the sea. Since the race was now a major success, some streetcar tracks were removed and much of the road was resurfaced to improve the course for the 1932 event” (Monaco, p. 22). That year, first through third place were swept up by Italy in Alfa Romeos, with Tazio Nuvolari leading the pack. (Art Deco; Automobiles)

  • Original Vintage Veuve Amiot Champagne Poster by Falcucci c1935 Couple
    Jun. 20, 2024

Original Vintage Veuve Amiot Champagne Poster by Falcucci c1935 Couple

    Est: $1,200 - $1,800

An elegant couple toasts one another in this high contrast poster for Veuve Amiot champagne, creator of "great sparkling wines". Falcucci, the artist of this poster employs the visual trick popularized by Lautrec of allowing the natural color of the poster's paper to become a major element in the design. Here, this paper color becomes the woman's dress, as well as her and her partner's skin tone. It is an effectively striking design. Veuve Amiot is a French sparkling wine producer that has been in business since 1884. Veuve Amiot means "Widow of the Amiot" in French, and it was named after Elisa Amiot, who unexpectedly became a widow with four young children. Two years later, in 1884 she decided to take charge in her late husband's wine trading company. With the help of her sons, she was able to quickly build the reputation of Veuve Amiot as a creator of high quality sparkling wines. Under the leadership of Elisa and her son Jules, who inherited the business after Elisa passed away, the company has developed to reach an international audience, and is still active over a hundred years later. Robert Falcucci (1900 - 1988) was a French illustrator best known for his Monaco Grand Prix posters from 1930. Falcucci worked for the Renault car company from 1923- 1927 where he directed many advertising pages for Renault. Throughout his career, Falcucci was known for illustrating many automotive and travel posters. Falcucci's style defines the figure in the poster using bright lines on a dark background, which works to accentuate the vibrance of colors. Falcucci's work has appeared in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all our posters.

Falcucci wonderfully captures the universal concept of a newspaper "Written for all and read by all." By using the colors of the French flag, Falcucci implies that to be French is to read La Montagne. Fit to Print 187.

    Monaco Grand Prix 1932.

    Est: $17,000 - $20,000

ARTIST: ROBERT FALCUCCI (1900-1989) SIZE: 31 3/8 x 47 1/2 in./79.7 x 120.5 cm PRINTER: Imp.

ROBERT FALCUCCI (1900-1989) PARIS - ALGER / LIAISON RAPIDE PAR MARSEILLE. Circa 1935. 38 1/4x24 inches, 97x61 cm. M. Dechaux, Paris. Condition A: small repaired tears at edges. Matted and Framed. Falcucci's career spanned multiple decades and several thematic milieus. He began designing car racing posters for the Monaco Grand Prix in 1930, and went on to design travel posters and images for Air France. His later work is punctuated by bright, near fluorescent colors. Here, he uses a simple primary color scheme and stylized map to show the many routes by which Algeria is accessible from France and other parts of Europe. To emphasize the speed used to make the trip, he portrays two steaming vehicles cruising powerfully toward their destinations.
