    Sissi Farassat's sequined pictures investigate and reflect essential aspects of the perception and the aesthetics of the photographic image. She isolates the photographed subject, mostly a person, by covering the surrounding surface with a dazzling sequin carpet. The context is eliminated and the subjects are captured in the abstract surrounding. The sensuous materiality of the sequins is completely alien to photography, thus Farassat's photographic works are endowed with a spiritual aura placing them in the long tradition of icons. The artist manages to create a unique work of art without denying the medium of photography, which lies at the core of the work. ›Laura / TV‹ Sissi Farassats Paillettenbilder erforschen und reflektieren essentielle Aspekte der Wahrnehmung und Ästhetik von fotografischen Bildern. Sie isoliert das fotografierte Subjekt, meistens eine Person, indem sie die Umgebung mit einem Teppich aus grellen Pailletten bedeckt. Der Kontext wird vollkommen eliminiert und die Person ist gefangen in einer abstrakten Umgebung. Die sinnliche Materialität der Pailletten ist der Fotografie vollkommen fremd, wodurch Farassats fotografische Arbeiten mit einer spirituellen Aura ausgestattet werden und sich in die lange Tradition der Ikonen einordnen. Die Künstlerin kreiert so ein Unikat ohne das Medium der Fotografie, welches die Grundlage ihrer Arbeiten ist, zu verleugnen.

    The concept of visualising her own life, in the form of photographic diaries, plays a reoccurring and important role in Sissi Farassat's artistic work. The same can be said for the present photograph, which is part of a series called aufwachen (waking up). In this piece the artist took a picture of herself every day directly after awaking, over a period of one month, without make-up and without having brushed her hair. In the various photographs the artist can be seen dreamy, sleepy, confused or like in the photograph on offer, with a sensual gaze. After another glance the picture however gets more ambivalent than the viewer at first imagines. Barely visible, Farassat is holding the delayed action release in her hand - hence she stays in charge of the situation, of her own image. [Michael Ponstingl] ›Ohne Titel‹ (from the series ›aufwachen‹) Die Konzeption, Abschnitte des eigenen Lebens als foto-visuelles Tagebuch zu fassen, spielt in Sissi Farassats künstlerischer Arbeit wiederkehrend eine wichtige Rolle. Das gilt auch für die Serie aufwachen, aus der vorliegende Fotografie stammt. Dabei hat sich die Künstlerin einen Monat lang jeden Morgen gleich nach dem Munterwerden, so wie sie ist, also ungeschminkt und unfrisiert, lichtbildnerisch verewigt. In den verschiedenen Aufnahmen begegnet uns die junge Frau einmal verschlafen, verträumt, einmal verwirrt oder auch, wie im auktionierten Bild, mit sinnlichem Blick. Bei etwas eingehender Betrachtung allerdings erweist sich die Situation als viel ambivalenter, als es den ersten Anschein hat. Farassat hält, nicht sogleich identifizierbar, einen Selbstauslöser in der Hand - bleibt somit Frau der Lage oder Frau über ihr eigenes Bild. [Michael Ponstingl]
