        Titled Paisaje de San Vicente 50.5 X 40.1 cm. Sold at auction in a Cuban art auction in 2009 for $7000 plus Buyers premium, we show a photo of the auction catalogue. Feijóo exhibited his works in 1961 in a show calledSamuel Feijóo: Dibujos, Acuarelas y Aguafuertes at Biblioteca Nacional José Martí in Havana; in 1974 he had an exhibition called Feijóo/Cuba at the Silkeborg Kunst Museum in Silkeborg, Denmark; and in 1978Samuel Feijóo. Kokoriokos Kakafuakos was shown at Casa de la Cultura de Plaza in Havana. Feijóo presented his paintings in 1977 at the 50 Años de la Revista de Avance at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de LaHabana; in 1984 at the I Bienal de La Habana, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana; in 1986 in the show Künstler aus Kuba at Galerie Junge Künstler, Berlin, Germany and in 1991 his exhibit titled Maestros de laPintura Cubana was shown at Centro Provincial de Artes Plásticas y Diseño in Havana. Provenance: from a Northern California antique shop. About the artist: Samuel Feijoo (1914-1992) was born in San Juan de las Yeras, Las Villas, Cuba in 1914. Feijoo was a known poet, novelist, folklore researcher, and painter and draftsman. Feijoo published many of his drawings in the several magazines he founded, However, Feijoo, for most of his life, chose to remain outside of the professional art circles. He seldomly showed his works in gallery shows outside of the 1960s in Havana. The subject of Feijoo's works are often forms from nature along with creatures of almost alien form. Feijoo was a good friend of famous French artist Jean Dubuffet, the founder of the Art Brut movement and champion of 'low art' in contrast to the tradition standard of beauty. Samuel Feijoo's unique aesthetics approach can be described as a defense of the deprived, the 'lower class' and especially the Cuban peasant, as well as his love for counter culture and Cuban folklore.
