Samuel L. Feinstein (1915-2003) was born in Russia, raised in Philadelphia and painted and taught in New York and on Cape Cod for over fifty years.  Academically trained as a commercial artist, Feinstein painted in a realist/expressionist style until his study with Hans Hofmann in the early 1950s led to his deep involvement with abstract art.  Feinstein is the creator of the historically-important documentary film titled Hans Hofmann.  He taught at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pratt Institute and held private classes in New York, Philadelphia, Princeton, Toronto and on Cape Cod.  Feinstein’s art has been widely exhibited and entered the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, the Woodmere Art Museum, the Cape Ann Museum and the Cape Cod Museum of Art.  For more information, see the monograph titled Sam Feinstein by Patricia Stark Feinstein or visit www.samfeinstein.com.
