Raoul Dufy (El Havre, 1877 - Forcalquier, 1953) Placa en cerámica esmaltada. Firmada. Pieza única. Realizada por el ceramista catalán Llorens Artigas (1892-1980) y pintada por Raoul Dufy. Hacia 19230. Se adjunta certificado de Dña. Fanny Guillon-Laffaille, con fecha 17 de noviembre de 2005. Proceden de la decoración de un jardín de interior realizada por Raoul Dufy en colaboración con Llorens Artigas. Formaron parte de una jardinera. Inspirada por las decoraciones del arquitecto Nicolau Mario Rubió i Tudurí (1891-1981). Desde 1924, año en que se asoció con Llorens Artigas, Dufy se interesó por las Artes Decorativas. Empezó pintando jarrones, una fuente, azulejos y jardineras, todos realizados por Artigas. Junto a Rubió i Tudurí, los tres, crearon obras únicas, bautizadas por Raymond Cogniat como "Jardins d'appartement" o "Jardins de salon". AN ORIGINAL PAINTING OF GERTRUDE LAWRENCE BY FANNY HOLTZMANN FANNY HOLTZMANN(1902-1980) Pioneering female attorney, a multifaceted Jewish-American dynamo who played an important and influential role in shaping international policy, rescuing scores of Jews during the Holocaust and helping to establishing Israel, also a successful artist whose works grace New York's Museum of Modern Art. As a lawyer specializing in motion picture and copyright cases, Holtzmann's client list read like a who's who, including Noel Coward, Fred Astaire, Clifton Webb, and Gertrude Lawrence, and her personal friends included George Bernard Shaw, Edmund Goulding, Benjamin Cardozo and Eleanor Roosevelt. On the international stage, Holtzmann represented the Republic of China in early charter meetings during the planning of the United Nations and lobbied the UN Special Committee on Palestine for the formation of a Jewish state in Palestine. Through contacts with European royalty and aristocracy, she learned of Hitler's atrocities and used her celebrity to convince the U.S. Immigration Service to permit hundreds of Jews into the country, also raising money to ensure they would not become dependent upon public funds (although she was able to rescue many immigrants, Holtzmann's own relatives died in concentration camps). In the 1940s the multifaceted Holtzmann took up painting and was signed by greeting card giant Gallery Artists Co. who later became Hallmark. Her original art would display at Leicester Galleries in London to favorable reviews and she later turning to sculpture: her bust of President Eisenhower was featured at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Offered here is a wonderful item associating two larger-than-life women, an oil painting executed by Holtzmann of her client and close friend actress Gertrude Lawrence. Measuring 9" x 12" on stretched canvas, Holtzmann paints a head and shoulders likeness in rich red tones of the legendary star of Pygmalion, The King and I and The Glass Menagerie, signing "E. HOLTZMANN" at lower right. When Lawrence died of cancer on September 1952, the New York Times tribute to her included a portrait of Lawrence done by Holtzmann, very likely this very painting. With Holztmann's help, Lawrence's widower David was able to establish the Gertrude Lawrence Foundation for cancer research soon after her death. With original weathered frame (detached), very good condition and certainly ideal for display.

Harvey Kurtzman Little Annie Fanny Preliminary Original Art (Playboy, 1963). Before handing the final "Little Annie Fanny" artwork chores over to uber-talented folk like Russ Heath and Will Elder, Harvey Kurtzman would produce meticulously-designed preliminaries for the artists to work from. Offered here are the prelims for the July 1963 issue of Playboy, including a detailed pencil-and-ink panel layout on graph paper, and two color guides; ever the perfectionist, Kurtzman left nothing to chance. The black and white layouts have image areas of 7.5" x 10" while the color guides have image areas of 6.5" x 8". The art is in Very Good condition with some minor discoloration. A copy of the printed Playboy is also included.

A few quick pencil roughs for the popular "Little Annie Fanny" series in Playboy, by creator Harvey Kurtzman. Although very loose and simple, these definitely have the Kurtzman touch. The first sheet measures 9" x 5.25", while the second measures 11" x 3.5". Both are in Very Good condition, with minor creasing and edge wear.
