            Amos Ferguson 1920-2009 Mother and Daughter 1980 enamel on board 28 x 22 inches signed and dated "Paint by Mr. Amos Ferguson, 1980" East Bay Street, Nassau, frame label verso Provenance: private collection, New York; acquired directly from the artist Amos Ferguson was a Bahamian folk artist, who painted Bible stories and local scenes. He was nicknamed the Picasso of Nassau. Amos was one of 14 children, and his father was a preacher, farmer and carpenter. He started out as a house painter, but when he was 40, his nephew recounted a dream he had and in it Jesus told him his uncle Amos was wasting his talent painting houses. In 1985, an exhibition at the Wadsworth Atheneum featured 50 of his works.

            Propety of a Private Collector, Savannah, GA Description: Amos Ferguson (Bahamas, 1920-2009), Bahamian Scene, 1991, Oil on Cardboard, signed and dated lower right, depicting figures on a beach, in a wood frame. Frame size: 38 1/2 in. x 32 3/4 in. Amos Ferguson was a Bahamian folk artist known for his colorful paintings of island life and Bible stories. A house painter by trade, Ferguson did not turn his talents to more artistic endeavors until he was in his 40s. He began exhibiting in 1972 and his US debut was at the Wadsworth Atheneum in 1985. His outsider art can be found in many private and public collections in the Bahamas and the United States. Measurements: Height: by sight 35 1/2 in. x Width: 29 3/4 in. Condition: Good condition, some cracking to paint.
