In einem Innenraum vor einer halbrunden Steinnische stehend ein Tisch, über dem rechtsseitig ein Tuch liegt und auf dem mittig eine silbrig glänzende Schale mit Henkeln und Deckel neben einer geöffneten Frucht, einer Orange und hellen sowie blauen Weintraubenrispen mit Blattwerk steht. Über dem Tisch, an einem Seil herabhängend, ein Greifvogel mit prachtvollem braun-weißem Federkleid. Malerei in der typischen Manier des Künstlers. Der Künstler war ein Maler der holländischen Schule, der aus Schottland stammte, sich aber in Holland und auf Reisen in Frankreich und Italien zu einem Stilllebenmaler ausbildete. (1362118) (1) (18)

      (Scozia, 1632 - Inghilterra, 1695) Natura morta con lepre Olio su tela, cm 108X85 Provenienza: Monaco, Sotheby's, 17 giugno 1989, lotto 520 (?) Ferguson è una figura peripatetica, tuttavia fu uno dei pittori di nature morte inglesi più celebri del XVII secolo. Le sue opere mostrano la chiara influenza dei pittori olandesi, in particolare di Jan Vonck e Willem van Aelst e lui stesso lavorò molti anni a Utrecht, all'Aia e ad Amsterdam e compì certamente un viaggio in Italia dopo il 1650 e prima del 1664 e successivamente nel 1679 (Cfr. Willigen/Meijer 2003, p. 82). La sua produzione conta per lo più trofei di caccia che riscossero uno straordinario successo collezionistico. Bibliografia di riferimento: M.
