Arnaldo Ferraguti Sold at Auction Prices

Painter, Illustrator

Arnaldo Ferraguti (1862-1925) was an Italian painter and illustratory, often painting genre subjects. He was born in Ferrara but trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Naples, then under the leadership of Domenico Morelli. He befriended the painter Francesco Paolo Michetti and his circle at Francavilla al Mare.

In 1891, he married Olga Treves, granddaughter of the editors Emilio and Giuseppe Treves. He erected a villa in Pallanza where he taught painting, and attended salons in the nearby Villa Cordelia of Giuseppe Treves. He died in Forlì in 1925.

A work of great dynamism and movement due to the composition carried out by impastoed, short and fast brushstrokes, they show us a scene in which a flamenco dancer is in the middle of a show while she is accompanied by the music of the guitarist who contemplates her from below. In front of these two figures, a third figure appears next to the dancer, a woman dressed in a mantilla, closely watching the choreography. The ensemble is shown inside an enclosure opened by an arch in the background from where more people accompany the moment. Arnaldo Ferraguti trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and later assisted the Verist painter Francesco Paolo Michetti in Francavilla al Mare, who was to be a constant artistic reference for him with his repertoire of bucolic and popular themes.

Nach seiner Studienzeit an der Kunstakademie in Neapel unter Domenico Morelli, schloss Arnaldo Ferraguti 1883 Freundschaft mit dem Künstler Francesco Paolo Michetti (1851-1929), der ihn entscheidend prägt, und mit dem er gemeinsam „dal vero“ - nach der Natur - malte. Das farbfrische Aquarell zeigt die berühmte Cestius-Pyramide. Sie ist das Grabmal des römischen Prätors und Volkstribuns Gaius Cestius Epulo (gestorben vor 12 v. Chr.). Da Bestattungen bis ins 5. Jahrhundert innerhalb der Stadt verboten waren, wurden Grabmäler üblicherweise an den Ausfallstraßen errichtet. Die Cestius-Pyramide steht in exponierter Lage an der Via Ostiensis, eine der belebtesten römischen Straßen. Allievo all'Accademia di Napoli, esordisce a Venezia nel 1887 con una serie di studi a pastello.Il suo quadro 'Alla vanga' fece il giro di varie esposizioni, raccogliendovi lodi e premi: illustrò 'Sull'Oceano' del De Amicis, facendo appositamente un viaggio in America, e da allora alternò illustrazioni e dipinti. Fra le prime ricordiamo 'Cuore' e 'Novelle' del De Amicis, 'Vita dei Campi' del Verga- fra i secondi 'Madre', 'Vespero', 'Bivio','Prima e poi'.Il nostro dipinto si caratterizza per l'atmosfera vellutata e per le figure che, pur impegnate in gesti comuni e quotidiani, appaiono sublimate nella loro femminilità, quasi a diventare una visione onirica.
