      Pair of oil paintings on canvas, measures 74 x 62 each. Lluis Ferrant Born in Barcelona in 1806 and did his first studies in Juan de Ribera and in the classes of the San Fernando Academy. Pensioned by the infante Sebastián Gabriel to go to Italy, he went to that country with his brother Fernando, a landscape painter, with whom he wanted to share the salary of 10,000 reais that the infante had granted him and continued spending ten years . In 1842 he was appointed court painter, and in the same year King Ferdinand II of Naples granted him the appointment of academician of the Fine Arts of that Italian capital. In 1848 he was appointed court painter to Queen Elizabeth II and assistant professor of elementary studies at the San Fernando Academy. On his return to Spain from Rome, he made five paintings for the Royal Palace representing the following works of mercy: Visiting the sick, Giving lodging to the pilgrim, Feeding the hungry, Burying the dead and Dressing the naked.
