VICENTE FERRER GUASCH (Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza, 1917 - Ibiza, 2008). "Ibizan Street", 1976. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated in the lower right-hand corner. Measurements: 50 x 45 cm; 82 x 66 cm (frame). Ferrer Guasch was initiated in painting by Narcís Puget, during his high school years, and later moved to Barcelona to study teaching. Illness and the outbreak of the Civil War forced him to abandon his studies, and in 1939 he moved to Menorca. Once the war was over, Ferrer Guasch finished his teaching degree and, in 1946, his painting studies at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts. Between 1962 and 1982 he held the post of professor of drawing at the secondary school in Ibiza, combining teaching with artistic practice. His language starts from an initial Nabí post-impressionism and evolves towards a personal metaphysical painting, based on the representation of geometric volumes and the white tones of popular Ibizan architecture. Throughout his career he was awarded the Josep Masriera landscape prize by the Sant Jordi Academy (1952), the Mallorca prize by the Provincial Council of the Balearic Islands (1964), the gold medal at the Salón de Otoño del Círculo de Bellas Artes in Palma (1964), the Importante prize by the "Diario de Ibiza" newspaper and the commendation of the Order of Isabella the Catholic (1999). He also devoted himself to photography, with works that were exhibited in a posthumous exhibition. He is currently represented in numerous art collections, including the Ibiza Museum of Contemporary Art, the Conde de Godó collection, the J. A. Samaranch collection and the Caixa de Pensions de Barcelona Art Fund.
