Exhibited: Heart of the World, The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, 2010. Chen Hong was born in Shaoyang city, Hunan province, China. Hong has worked in many UK museums, including the Fitzwilliam Museum in March 2010, Colchester, Ipswich and the Norwich Castle Museum for a project funded by the Museum Libraries and Archives Council and organised by Margaret Greeves. All of Hong's pieces are significant in their symbolism, with the leaping golden carp symbolising good fortune and wealth. His works have been exhibited in the National Art Museum of China, the National Museum of China, the Military Museum of China and the Cultural Palace of Nationalities. He has been awarded accolades from many Chinese government ministries, including the Ministry of Propaganda and the Ministry of Culture. Hong began as a print artist, and in recent years his interest in Chinese traditional painting has grown, particularly in representations of fish. He has been given the honorific title "Fish King" and "Fish Immortal" by those in the profession. His works have been collected by the former Prime Minister of South Korea, Lee Soo-Sung, the former Peruvian President and other international friends. In June 2008, he was invited to Cambodia as a cultural ambassador to attend the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the China-Cambodia friendship. In 1991, his wood cut 'The Daughter of the Mountain" won the Bronze award in the second exhibition of Chinese Industrial Print Art organized by the Chinese Print Art Association. In 2006, his works were collected by the Zhongnanhai National Gift Centre; this means his works are given as national gifts to foreign countries.
