[CHICAGO BAUHAUS] FIELD, LOIS (b. 1923). Untitled [Light Modulator, about 1948]. Gelatin silver print, 4 x 5 inches (102 x 127 mm), signed on mat on verso. Moholy-Nagy as director of the New Bauhaus in Chicago believed in an intellectual integration where students explored and used several disciplines at once. "Light Modulators" were sculptures that students produced from different material, often paper. The process of construction acquainted the students with the use of materials and composition. The pieces were then lit and photographed to understand how light manipulated and changes forms.
