Attributed to Nathan Theodore Fielding (British, 1746/1747–1819)

    Est: £1,000 - £2,000

Attributed to Nathan Theodore Fielding (British, 1746/1747–1819) A view of Godmanchester, Huntingdonshire oil on canvas 72 x 100cm An early view of The Causeway, Godmanchester, this painting depicts the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School with the Church of St Mary the Virgin beyond. Both buildings still stand today, though the central building with large chimneys, the Old Vicarage, was demolished in the early 19th century. Fielding was born in Yorkshire and lived near Halifax, though a number views of Lincolnshire (now in the Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery), close in style to the present painting, indicate that the artist travelled and worked further south. We are grateful to Bridget Flanagan for her assistance with this catalogue entry.
