IVY FIFE (1905-1976) Untitled (Rockpool) watercolour signed lower left: I.G. FIFE 57 x 47cm OTHER NOTES: 'All vacations were for painting - I set out laden with canvases, an easel, and a well stocked paint box. Train or bus travel were my only means of transport, so large paintings were out of the question. I would arrive at about 2 or 3am on a pitch black morning. The foothills of the mountains were a great draw, cold mountain streams splashing over interesting rocks. It was fun sitting on a rock in mid-stream and painting a watercolour - just dipping one's brush in the stream. My feet used to get numb with the cold water.' Ivy Fife quoted in Brian Muir, Ivy Fife Retrospective Exhibition, 1938-1976 : the Robert McDougall Art Gallery, Christchurch February 16-March 18, 1977.
