      Portraits of James Cortland and his Wife, a very well-to-do middle aged couple, probably Connecticut, both with gold bejeweled accessories, she with French style turban and pleated lace collar, he in conservative coat and ochre waistcoat, with Napoleonic hair, oil on canvas, signed and with sitter's name verso, both dated 1834, in fine replica block corner frames, OS: 33 1/2" x 29 1/4", SS: 23 1/2" x 19 1/4", cleaned but not relined, original inscriptions verso visible. Museum of Art, Univ. of Conn. label verso.
