Ian Hamilton Finlay CBE,  Scottish 1925-2006 -  Through a Dark Wood Midway;  copper plated aluminum medallion with chain, medallion diam. 4 cm: together with two other medallions by the same artist, 'A Celebration of Earth Air Fire Water' and 'The Last Cruise of the Emden' (3) (ARR)  Note:  The text used in the first item relates to the opening lines of Dante's 'Divine Comedy': 'In the middle of the journey of our life ('Midway'), I came to myself in a dark wood". Hamilton Finlay, in his typically elegiac style, connects this text with military imagery relating and in particular the Battle of Midway in June 1942 between the American and Japanese fleets.
