Manufactured in 1931, the very first year and part of the original 16 toys that launched the company. Very few were wind-ups as they all became pull/push toys after 1931. Toy is called Go N Back Mule. This toy is difficult to find working, and has original tail and oilcloth ears. Some general paper loss and wear. Condition: (Very Good). oil on canvas, signed and dated at lower right "Anton Otto Fischer 1929," depicting a clipper ship in full sail on brilliant blue seas, housed in the likely original wood frame.SS 27.75 x 21.75 in.; DOA 31.25 x 25 in. A prolific illustrator and artist, Fischer's seascapes and ship paintings, such as this, are his finest work. In addition to painting, he was a lifelong sailor. In 1943 he exhibited works executed while sailing with the Coast Guards during WWII. His paintings are found in the Coast Guard Museum, Mystic Seaport Museum, and Kendall Whaling Museum.
