        Mark William Fisher, RA,  American/British 1841-1923-  View of a duck pond, Widdington;  oil on canvas, signed 'Mark Fisher' (lower right), inscribed 'DUCK POND / WIDDINGTON / M. FISHER' to the upper stretcher bar, 40.2 x 51 cm.  Provenance:  Private Collection, UK.  Note:  Fisher studied under the influential American landscape painter George Inness (1825-1894) at the Lowell Institute in Boston, and also at Gleyre's Atelier in Paris in 1863, at the same time as Alfred Sisley (1839-1899). Fisher then travelled to England, settling in Harlow, Essex, where he painted idyllic rural scenes, such as the present work, characterised by loose brushstrokes which impart a sense of windswept movement to the otherwise tranquil landscape.
