Gerard Fitremann (1946-2007) French, Signed & Numbered Color Etching. Signed in pencil bottom right. He was a student at the Academy of Liège in Belgium, studying under Evariste Carpentier and Adrien de Witte. He traveled extensively in Spain, Brussels, Italy, and France, painting and etching while developing a Surrealist style. In the 1960s he was known as a master printer, devoted to creating prints of the works of Impressionists, Expressionists, and Modernists who had inspired him. In the late 1970s he abandoned this role to concentrate exclusively on his own distinctive art work, creating multiple series of art like “Cosmogony.” He created a large body of watercolors, etchings and paintings at his studio in Paris, where his local reputation grew as his work appeared in galleries and international art fairs. He passed away in 2007, and his art continues to gain in popularity as it appears more and more frequently at auctions.
