Charles Nöel Flagg, (American, 1848-1916), "The Bather", 1882, oil on canvas, charming depiction of a young woman, her torso partially uncovered, turned towards her bathwater, signed LR, framed, wear to edges, restorations including inpainting to select areas, 30 1/8" h. x 25 1/8" w. He later traveled to Paris, as was fashionable at the time, to study French painting. As evident in this painting of a bather, which was likely completed in Paris, he became skilled in the principles of drawing and modeling. Throughout his life, Flagg was involved in and supportive of the artistic community in Hartford. Deaccessioned from the Wadsworth Atheneum, sold to benefit acquisition funds.]
