Tom Fleischhauer (1954-2011) From 1975 to 1979, the German painter Tom Fleischhauer studied architecture in Munich and in Aachen. In 1980, he made an extensive study trip, especially to North and South America. From 1982 to 1986, he studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin under the guidance of Professor Dieter Appelt. Since then, he lived and worked in Berlin until his death. Fleischhauer has exhibited his works in major German museum collections, including the Georg Kolbe Museum in Berlin, and the Kunsthalle Dresden. The abstract composition is rendered in the colors black and white, echoing the medium of photography. It depicts a number of pedestrians on a sidewalk. Neither the passers-by, nor the objects or the location of the depiction can be deciphered in detail. The color fields were mostly applied in squares and form a grid that becomes the more a coherent composition, the farther the viewer stands away from the painting. In this work, Fleischhauer deals with the issue of human beings in public spaces, a topic which he has visited several times in his oeuvre. The painting is monogrammed and dated on lower right edge, 'TF 2003'. The canvas is slightly wavy in the outermost corners. Otherwise, the painting is in very good condition.
