      Gisbert Fluggen (Germany, 1811-1859). This antique oil painting on canvas is faintly signed, lower left. The work depicts two men playing a game of chess in a dimly lit room. It comes with several pages of correspondence from local libraries that contain supplemental information on the artist. The work is housed in a cracked, white-washed, gilt frame. The painting has craquelure and varnish damage. There are two (4" and 6") lines of discoloration to its upper margin, as well as an adjacent flake of missing paint. The canvas measures 17 1/2" x 14 1/2", and the frame measures 27 1/2" x 24". In-house shipping is available. Please see our website regarding our in-house shipping procedures.
