      Cornelia M. Foley (1909 - 2010), "Hawaiian Dancer," woodcut on paper, signed lower right and titled at lower left, measures 7.75 x 5 3/8 inches to the image edge, 18.50 x 16 inches framed. CONDITION: Good, creasing present in the lower middle part of the image, frame chipped. Born in Honolulu, Cornelia Foley is known for her figure paintings of Hawaiian women in a style much influenced by Diego Rivera. She studied at the University of Washington and at the Slade School in London and then returned to Hawaii, establishing a reputation as a painter and printmaker, most notable for her figure subjects, especially appealing young Polynesian women. Her paintings suggest voluptuousness and her models are dressed in clinging outfits and placed in floral settings.
