      Robert Foose watercolor probably sited at Pleasant Hill, Shaker Village - Mercer County, Kentucky Watercolor on paper of a snow scene signed and dated discretely by "Robert James Foose 1982" Signature to viewer's extreme middle left side running vertically. A common formatted signature by the artist. Likely painted at Pleasant Hill Shaker Village or the artist's studio in Lexington. Foose did several snow scenes at the village with diagonally piled stone fence caps in the foreground. The artist's label on the reverse. A sticker on the reverse identifying the purchaser as "Green Settle". As painted excellent condition, tastefully framed. Image size 12 ½" x 20 ½" framed to 20 ¾" x 28 ¾". Lexington, Ky origin, 1982.

He was a member of the National Society of Arts and Letters and the Southern Watercolor Society. Foose also was a printmaker and ran the Buttonwood Press.

      Robert James Foose (American, 1938–2013) THE TANYARD HOUSE, PLEASANT HILL $3,000. – $5,000. Watercolor, 28” x 40” Signed, dated 1982 $3,000. – 5,000. A two-storied three-bayed brick building, the Tanyard was erected at Pleasant Hill during the fall and winter of 1823–24. By 1826 the building was being used for tanning leather and also as a place for the tanner to hitch horses to the pump to supply the village with water. Today it is used as a secluded cottage for visitors.
