        Lauren Ford (New York, Connecticut, 1891 - 1973) Painting of a young girl sitting beneath a shade tree amongst a flock of sheep. Oil on board. Signed lower right. Sight size: 9.5 x 13.5 in. Overall Size: 17 x 21 in. She was a regular exhibitor at New York City's Ferargil Galleries from 1928 on, and in the 1930s at the Carnegie International Exhibitions in Pittsburgh. Her paintings are in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, and Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

        Lauren Ford, American., 1891-1973, 7 vignettes of a little girl at the beach, watercolor, whiting and graphite on pale green paper, pencil signed lower right. NOTE: Bethlehem Connecticut's Abbey of Regina Laudis is a vibrant community of nuns who keep the chant tradition alive. The Abbey continues to print and sell Christmas cards today with images created by Lauren Ford. When Lauren died, she left her Bethlehem farm to the Abbey. The nuns still raise the sheep, tend the land and teach painting, pottery and printmaking in Lauren Ford's studio. The story of Lauren Ford and Regina Laudis was captured by Clare Boothe Luce who wrote the book for the 1949 film "Come to the Stable" co-starring Celeste Holm, Loretta Young, and Elsa Lanchester playing the role of Lauren. Celeste Holm received an Academy Award nomination for her role. NOTE: the artist enjoyed an extensive exhibition record during the 1930's: Exhibited: WMAA, 1925-26; Ferargil Galleries, NYC (solos, 1930, 1932, 1938); PAFA, 1932-33, 1939-45; CI, 1939 (solo); Corcoran Gal biennials, 1928-45; Corcoran Gal., 1939 (solo); AIC, 1928, 1932, 1937-38.
