    Maximilian Franck (born around 1780 Düsseldorf): Portrait of F von Kobell (1740-1799), 19th century, Lithography Technique: Lithography on Paper Inscription: Signed "Franck fecit" in the lower right corner of the stone. Inscribed below the depiction with the sitter's name, below in brown ink with his life data. Handwritten inscription in brown ink with a short biography of the sitter. Date: 19th century Description: Born in Mannheim in 1740, Ferdinand Kobell initially studied law in Heidelberg, but also worked as an artist. When one of his landscape paintings came to the attention of Elector Carl Theodor of the Palatinate, he supported Kobell in his artistic training and encouraged his talent. For further training he was sent to the academy in Paris and after his return he was appointed electoral cabinet painter and soon afterwards professor at the Mannheim academy. He distinguished himself above all by his landscape paintings with motifs from the surroundings of Mannheim, but also made a name for himself in printmaking. The present portrait shows the artist in the prime of his years in a classical half-profile. There is damage to the stone on the sitter's chest. Tuschfederzeichnung mit stellenweiser Überarbeitung in brauner Feder über Bleistift, mit Einfassungslinie in Tuschfeder bzw.
