Condition A-: small replaced loss at upper left edge; minor restoration and darkening at edges. Born André Farkas in a province that is now Romania, François made his name as a children's book illustrator in France and the U.S. Beginning in the 1950s, he created illustrations for adult publications, and became famous for his posters advertising companies such as Kodak, Citroën and Gilette. His designs for magazines such as The New Yorker, Graphics and Punch, and work with various newspapers brought him international recognition. François' playful, sketchy, and clever style is apparent in this Kodak ad for color photography. Graphis 76, March 1 1958, p. 23.

BÜSTE "DER ZWÖLFJÄHRIGE JESUS IM TEMPEL", UM 1900. Höhe: 38 cm. Auf der linken Schulter signiert, auf der Rückseite Gießereistempel und nummeriert. Bronze, gold- und rotfarben patiniert. Die Büste des jungen Jesus mit leicht nach rechts gewendetem Haupt ist ganz der lyrischen Stimmung des Jugendstils verpflichtet und erscheint dadurch stärker dekorativ denn religiös. Mit der Ganzfigur in Marmor war der Künstler auf der Weltausstellung 1900 in Paris vertreten und sehr erfolgreich. Die Ausführungen der Büste in Bronze sind unmittelbar danach entstanden.
