Ray Friesz (1930 - 2007) Seascape Oil on Canvas. Ray Friesz was born on May 12, 1930 in Missouri. At 18 years of age he became the youngest artist invited to the Los Angeles Art Association's Artist Under 33 show. After working various jobs, Friesz finally concentrated on painting after receiving two important commissions in1960. He employed a new technique of pouring, throwing, splattering and dripping fast drying acrylic paint. Out of these splashes of earthy colors emerged obscure landscapes. Soon Friesz was invited to become an exhibitor in the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts, where he exhibited for 43 years--a record for this show. Over the years, renowned art critics compared Friesz' art work to that of Jackson Pollock. As for Friesz, he described his method of work as "controlled accident". Friesz received numerous awards and enjoyed international recognition of his work. His works hang in many museums and galleries as well as in the houses of the Nobel Prize winner Dr. Linus Pauling,.
