      George Fullard,  British 1923-1973 -  Portrait of Annesley (Andy) Tittensor 1948;  bronze, from an edition of 2, 24 x 22 x 22 cm (ARR)  Provenance: The Estate of the Artist, cat. no.5  Note: the sitter was a sculptor who studied at Wolverhampton School of Art and later exhibited with the Brotherhood of the Ruralists, alongside Peter Blake, Graham Arnold and Jann Howarth from the 1980s.  Fullard was a hugely celebrated British sculptor from the Post-War era and his work was particularly singled out for praise by critic John Berger. A recent retrospective of his works was held at Graves Art Gallery in Sheffield in 2023.

      § George Fullard (British, 1923-1974) Mother and child signed and dated lower right "Fullard 55" ink and wash h:42 w: 19 cm Provenance: Bought by Harwood Stevenson directly from the artist and by descent. George Fullard was born in Sheffield on 15 September 1923 - he served with the 17th/21st Lancers during World War II and was severely wounded at the Battle of Cassino. He studied at the Sheffield College of Arts and Crafts and at the Royal College of Art. By 1958 John Berger, the art critic of the New Statesman, regarded him as Britain's best young contemporary sculptor. He began to exhibit abroad and win prizes: for example "Running Woman", which can be seen in the grounds of Upper Chapel in Sheffield city centre. Fullard won the "John Moore Prize" in 1957.
