Francine Funke Sold at Auction Prices

The art of Francine Funke ranges from large mixed media wall pieces and installations, to acrylic paintings on canvas and paper, to original drawings, to 3-dimensional works on paper—and to her Mechanical Botanical and Floral Phenomena Series called “Photographic Combines”.



Her signature pop-up chair sculptures, called “Dimensional Drawings”, were chosen by the legendary, Gene Moore, Director of Tiffany & Company, to be displayed in all five of their windows on Fifth Avenue in New York City.



Ms. Funke’s artwork has been exhibited in numerous major museums nationwide. Her installation, “Plumes”, which was part of her prominent "Fire Works" Series traveled to the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the Scottsdale Center for the Arts in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the Russell Senate Rotunda on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, where her exhibition was sponsored by Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut.



Among her New York City gallery venues are exhibitions at the Barbara Braathen Gallery (solo), Walter Wickiser Gallery (solo), Vanderwoude Tananbaum Gallery, Phyllis Weil Gallery, and solo exhibitions at the PMW Gallery, the Stamford Center for the Arts, and the Bartlett Arboretum in Stamford,CT.



Her paintings have been included in shows at the Aldrich Museum, Parrish Art Museum, Dowling College Art Museum, Hudson River Museum, California State University Art Museum, Discovery Museum, Bruce Museum, The University of Massachusetts, Rutgers University, the Cambridge, MA Multicultural Arts Center,and the Contemporary Art Gallery of Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT.

Most recently three of her works were chosen by Bill Arning, Curator of MIT’s List Visual Arts Center and former curator of White Columns in NYC, for inclusion in the Housatonic Museum’s juried show.



Reviews of her exhibitions have appeared in Artnews, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Art Now, Splash Magazine, the Stamford Advocate and Greenwich Times, Art, New England, Palm Beach Post, The NY Daily News, the Scottsdale Daily Progress, and Times/Mirror Newspapers.



Francine’s artwork is in the collections of the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Agnes Gund, Chairperson of the Museum of Modern Art, Dana Tyler, anchor at CBS News, Mr. Kent Logan, The Aldrich Museum, the Phoenix Insurance Company, Prudential Bach Securities, the Tully Health Center in Stamford, CT, the General Electric Corporation, and Vertrue Corporation.



Her book, ON FIRE, poem and paintings, is in the library collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, the National Museum of Women in the Arts Library, McNay Art Museum, San Antonio, Texas, and the Cleveland Museum of Art.



Her artwork included in New York City's Pen & Brush Gallery in an exhibition entitled, "In the News" which was curated by Morley Safer of 60 Minutes fame. Her 32 foot mural entitled, “Cultural Symbols of the Sea”, hangs iin the media center of The International School at Rogers Magnet in Stamford, CT. Two works from her "Mechanical Botanical" Series were included in the Center for Contemporary Printmaking's International Miniature Print Exhibition, 2009.



Francine Funke received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Cornell University School of Art, Architecture, and Planning, and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Hunter College in NYC. She is listed in Who’s Who of American Women.
