Emma Fyfe-Jamieson Sold at Auction Prices

I have been taking pictures for as long as I can remember, starting at the age of 8 with a Kodak Brownie 127, and a couple of years later being a dark-room "assistant" to my older brother - here I discovered the excitement of print making - there is still little to beat watching an image appear as if by magic in the developer dish, lit by the dim red glow of the darkroom lamp.

Living in London later with this rather dubious training and a lot of practice in my own darkroom I started photographing children in their own familiar environment, in black and white. This was at a time when Studio portraits were the norm, and this more natural approach proved popular. Moving to Johannesburg a couple of years later I continued with this style of portraiture as well as undertaking various magazine assignments.

With the advent of the digital age, the natural style of portraiture has become more popular and more accessible so although I do still undertake commissions, I am now concentrating more on graphic and landscape photography, with the emphasis on textures and patterns found in nature. Horses are also a favourite subject, particularly in their own environment unfettered by tack or rider. The Namibian desert horses, which have run wild for over 100 years, provide plenty of scope for this, and give me the opportunity to explore further the vast African landscape. I have exhbited in London, Johannesburg, Stellenbosch and Cape Town.

"To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy" Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Limited edition prints are available, printed on either canvas or acid-free archival quality Hahnemeule paper.. All prints ordered are signed by the photographer and numbered.
