PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate. Stanley Long grew up on a ranch in Napa, California breaking wild horses. At the age of 15 he enrolled in the San Francisco Art Institute where he was awarded a scholarship to Paris' Academie Julian. He served in the camouflage corps in both world wars and taught for 17 years at Polytechnic High School. His love for ranch life is reflected in his all his work.

Although a member of the New York and California Society of Illustrators, and the designer of twenty six stamps for the United States Postal Service, he is best remembered for the series of posters he designed for United Airlines in the 1950s and 60s.
