Accompanied by Ce.S.Ar. Centro Studi Archeometrici certificate of auntenticity. of shaped square form with side handle resting on four foliate feet, finely engraved and openworked with plant motifs, accompanied by four English cut glass bottles. Sterling silver, fully hallmarked London 1836-1837, silversmiths R & S Garrard & Co and inscribed "GARRARDS - PANTON STREET - LONDON". The founder of the firm was George Wickes who was apprenticed to Samuel Wastell in 1712 and free in 1720. His first mark was entered in 1722. He entered his Panton Street marks in 1735 and it is clear from the surviving Garrards' ledger that this is when he began an independent existence. The firm was known successively as George Wickes, Craig & Wickes, George Wickes, Wickes & Netherton, Parker & Wakelin, Wakelin & Taylor, Wakelin & Garrard and when Robert Garrard took sole control in 1802 it had already been established in Panton Street for sixty-seven years. On his death in 1818 he was succeeded by his three eldest sons Robert Garrard (junior), James Garrard and Sebastian Garrard, trading as R J & S Garrard. James Garrard appears to have retired c.1835 and from then until 1843, the year in which they succeeded Rundell, Bridge & Co as Crown Jewellers, they traded as R & S Garrard. From 1843 they were known as R & S Garrard & Co. and from 1909 they have traded as Garrard & Co Ltd . Item condition grading ***** excellent.

Features a chased body with two classical warriors and armour trophies within ribbon and leaf swags, finished with a fluted shoulder beneath a pouring spout and helmet surmounted scroll handle. The coat of arms at the Knights shield are Gooch impaling hirst Baronets of Benacre Hall, Suffolk. (Markings) Stamped: "Frazer & Haws From Garrards, 51 Regent Street" Assay marks for London 1869" at underside. A VICTORIAN SILVER WINE-COOLER, COLLAR AND LINER MARK OF ROBERT GARRARD, LONDON, 1843 Tapering fluted cylindrical and on openwork branch, foliage scroll and fruiting swag base, with two branch handles, engraved with strapwork, with a bead and scroll border, with a detachable liner and collar, engraved with a coat-of-arms below a coronet, marked near handles, on collar and on liner, the base further stamped 'R&S GARRARD PANTON ST. LONDON' 10½ in. (26.6 cm.) high 143 oz. (4,431 gr.) The arms are those of Rothschild for either Lionel Nathan de Rothschild (1808-1879) or his brother Anthony de Rothschild (1810-1876). The latter was created a baronet in 1847.

MARK OF ROBERT GARRARD, LONDON, 1868 Of typical form, on spreading oval foot, the partly-fluted body applied with two Silenus mask handles, with detachable partly-fluted baluster-shaped cover hung with chains, the body engraved with a coat-of-arms, the foot with presentation inscription, marked on body and cover 31 1/4 in. (79.5 cm.) high The inscription reads, 'Presented to William Jones Loyd. And Gertrude Loyd. On the celebration of their silver wedding by Lord Overstone. 21. June. 1873' Samuel Jones Loyd (1793-1883) was created 1st Baron Overstone of Overston and Fotheringay, co. Northampton in 1850. He succeeded his father as head of the family bank, Jones, Loyd and Co., in 1844. He was one of the main contributors to the Bank Charter Act of 1844 and was a vociferous opponent to the decimalisation of the currency. He supported the poor-law reforms and was chairman of the Irish Famine Committee. He married Harriet, daughter of Ichabod Wright of Mapperley Hall, co. Nottingham, in 1829. He died in 1883 leaving an only daughter Harriet and an estate which was valued at over 2 million pounds, which was in addition to land amounting to 30,000 acres.
